Louvre Abu Dhabi is the glittering jewel in the Saadiyat Island District. This universal museum is the only Louvre Museum outside of Paris and its legendary name indicates around 30 years of collaboration between the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the French government. Though the model is very much similar to the Louvre in Paris, the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi has tried to focus on exhibiting exploration, receptiveness and unity.

Architecture

Before going to the Louvre Abu Dhabi must-see exhibits, its architectural features should be mentioned first. Constructed as an impressive micro-city over the water, this brilliant structure is the masterpiece work from the famous architect Jean Nouvel. With a vastness of 24,000 square meters, it encompasses separate white structures designating the museum cities. Undoubtedly, the key feature of the building is a massive dome with 8 layers of interlocking aluminum and steel that gives an imposing pattern of more than 7,850 stars. It has a diameter of 180 meters and weighs around 7,500 tons. This awestruck design is built by drawing inspiration from the traditional Arabic style of interweaved roofing with palm leaves. The perforations from the dome let the natural light pass through it resulting in a spectacular contrast of sunlight and dark shade. Visitors who are stepping inside the Louvre could immerse amidst the charming rays of light giving a feel of being in another realm and famously call this view as the ‘Rain of Light’.

Let’s have a look at why this structure is called the ‘Universal Museum in the Arab World’

Louvre Abu Dhabi focuses on uniting people from the world, tales of human creativity beyond civilization,
culture, society, place and time. This recognition is not just reflected in the interaction between culture but
also in the Louvre Abu Dhabi architecture that combines Arabian heritage with the French design.

which dates to more than 500-years is from the legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci, who also drew Mona Lisa
and The Last Supper, which are worth the wait. Other notable pieces of art include the self-portrait of Vincent
Van Gogh and the classic Statue of King Ramesses. In addition to this, it also houses a statue of the Bactrian
princess, a bracelet dating back to 3000 years and a painting by Osman Hamdi Bey.

You can promise your young ones an awesome time in the gallery, as there is a “Children's Museum” inside
